It's OK to Feed Fido Plastic, Says FDA

 

In 2007, stories of tainted commercial dog food filled the airwaves on an almost hourly basis  after government tests uncovered a chemical called melamine, used in the manufacture of plastics, in  recalled dog food from Menu Foods. The chemical was subsequently discovered in the urine of dogs in kidney failure who died as a direct result of toxic poisoning

 

If you bought any of the commercial dog food  manufactured by Menu Foods and still enumerated  at http://Menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html,  you were unintentionally risking your dog's health and life.

 

Reports of dogs developing kidney failure and losing the battle for life after eating melamine tainted commercial dog food, became the daily routine of news stories.

 

Fast Forward to Today

Experts  at the Food and Drug Administration now state that "In food products other than infant formula, the FDA concludes that levels of melamine and melamine-related compounds below 2.5 parts per million (ppm) do not raise concerns"

 

What this means is that the F.D.A. thinks that it is now OK to feed yourself a chemical used to make plastics and fertilizer. And their research partner at the Center for Veterinary Medicine is on board with the government bureaucrats giving the thumbs up to melamine ingestion at certain levels.

 

With an attitude like that what oversight and control do you suppose exists in the commercial dog food industry?  I would not feed any amount of  plastic to my family including my dogs.

 

If you think we might be wrong then we defer to the World Health Organization (WHO) stated  "Melamine has also been shown to have carcinogenic effects in animals."

It should be no surprise that  dogs live shorter lives than  possible. In fact, dogs have a potential life expectancy of close to 25 years but most dogs live only an average of 10 years.
