Household Cleaners Fatal to Dogs

According to The American Association of Poison Control Centers
(AAPCC) household cleaning products  such as harsh soaps, laundry
detergent, drain cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners ammonia based
cleaners and bleach are common causes of poisoning related
emergencies and sadly even can be fatal.-

Your Dog is at RISK

When a bowl of clean, cool and fresh water is not accessible, Fido
may grab a slurp from the toilet, the street, a puddle or any
receptacle with an enticing refreshment. This may be fatal if the
liquid slurped is a toxic chemical. Another important reason to clean
and change the water in our dog’s bowls frequently.

Why take a chance? It’s easy to eliminate risk to Fido from unnecessary
exposure to chemicals he may imbibe and for which you will be sorry…

One way is to familiarize yourself with some of the most common
household hazards, frequently found in the kitchen, bath or laundry
area.

And LOCK THEM UP, AWAY FROM YOUR DOG…

Here’s a few potentially FATAL HOUSEHOLD POISONS:

(These are set forth as EXAMPLES and are NOT CONCLUSIVE)

AIR FRESHENER: Toxic chemicals may include nerve deadening
agents, formaldehyde which is cancer causing and phenol which
can cause skin to swell, burn, peel, or develop hives.

AMMONIA: Damage to eyes, respiration, and skin

ANTIBACTERIAL CLEANERS: May have triclosan. Can cause liver
damage if absorbed thru skin.

BLEACH: Irritates and burns skin, eyes and respiratory tract.
Causes pulmonary problems, vomiting, and coma if swallowed.

CARPET AND UPHOLSTERY SHAMPOO: May be toxic substances and include and include
perchloroethylene, a carcinogen. Damages liver kidney and nervous
system. Can cause eyes, skin and respiratory irritation.

CHLORINE: HIGHLY toxic and dangerous.. Found in many household
cleaning products… so lethal it is used in chemical warfare

DISHWASHER DETERGENT: Many have chlorine in a dry form that is
highly concentrated.

FURNITURE POLISH: contain petroleum distillates, which are highly
flammable and can cause skin and lung cancer. They contain
nitrobenzene, which is easily absorbed through the skin and
extremely toxic.

LAUNDRY ROOM PRODUCTS: Contain phosphorus, enzymes, ammonia,
naphthalene, phenol, sodium nitrilotriacetate and other toxic
chemicals that cause rashes, itches, allergies, and respiratory
problems. Toxic to Fido.

OVEN CLEANER: HIGHLY toxic, contains lye and ammonia, consumes the
derma, and harms the respiratory system.

TOILET BOWL CLEANERS: Contains hydrochloric acid which damages
skin, eyes kidneys, and liver. Also may contain hypochlorite bleach
which burns eyes, skin and respiratory functions. Dogs should
NOT drink from the bowl.

May cause pulmonary problems, vomiting or coma if ingested..
Combinations may prove fatal.

Many products with toxic chemicals are NOT been tested for safety,
but are part of our food, water and cleaning products.

Industry standards are lax so it us to us to be savvy consumers and
guardians of our dogs at a minimum

In fact, the National Research Council says that, “no toxic
information is available for more than 80% of the chemicals in
everyday-use products.”

Protect and SAVE a Life. It’s Simple As:

-Reducing or eliminating the use of toxic chemicals. Use nontoxic
natural products wherever possible

-Keeping cleaning products in original containers in closed
cabinets not accessible to Fido. Locked is best.

-Being informed. Read the labels. Do not use more than the amount
of chemical prescribed for any need.
