Canine Arthritis Remedies

Arthritis is a common malady affecting senior dogs. The good news is that there are natural and helpful remedies to relieve the discomfort, pain, and symptoms while providing potential benefits.

I make a point of giving our dogs as a preventative a natural product from Elliott Harvey called Arthro Aid..it is completely natural and we have had good results with it as have others whose dogs started taking it once diagnosed with Arthritis.

The Holistic product information on the site says that it “helps eliminate pain and inflammation throughout the full body”

Here it is in part— from Dr Jones, DVM

“Helping your dog…. deal with the discomfort of arthritis can be very disconcerting and frustrating.

Most commonly you have a middle-aged to older pet with signs of arthritis: stiffness, lameness, difficulty rising, reluctance to jump up etc..

A visit to your local Vet may not give you many options aside from conventional medication and their accompanying side effects.

No question, there is a place for these medications, and while in practice I used them often, BUT they must be used with caution, and it is a VERY wise idea to add in complementary forms of care to either eliminate or lower the dose of the NSAIDS.

Recently I finished a new video report on a very *old* but at times very effective holistic form of arthritis control.

Aromatherapy.
——————

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy has been used for THOUSANDS of
years.

The essential oils are extracted from the flowers, leaves, bark,
roots, stems, seeds, or fruit of a plant.

These oils are then either inhaled ( ie in a vaporizer or bowl of
hot water), or diluted and applied directly to the skin.

Encouragingly, here is a study documenting the use of Lavender
for pain control:

Lavender and Pain in a Critical Care Unit.

A randomized study by Woolfson and Hewitt published in Nursing
Times looked at the effects of the essential oil Lavender
combined with massage on 100 patients in a critical care unit.

The results of this study showed a 50% reduction in pain with
lavender oil as well as a significant effect on heart rate, blood
pressure, and respiratory rate.”

We are fans of natural remedies wherever possible to help
keep our dogs feeling their best and to provide pain relief
without the side effects commonly associated with traditional
pain meds whenever possible.

Keep these options in mind for your best friend.. Fido may be
healthier and happier if you do 🙂

P.S. from Dr Jones- These are very powerful oils,(discussed
today)and they have had significant side effects in especially
… small dogs, so it’s critical that you know HOW to use
them correctly.
