Are Nuts DANGEROUS for Dogs?

Almonds-Although dogs love almonds, they are not easily digested and may cause gastric distress. Not toxic, but not recommended.

Black Walnuts- Contain toxic juglone. which may cause gastric distress or even an obstruction. If moldy, they will have tremorgenic mycotoxins known to cause seizures or other neurological symptoms.

English Walnuts- Cause gastric distress and/or obstruction. If moldy, may contain toxic tremorgenic mycotoxins which may cause seizures or other neurological problems.

Hickory Nuts- Contain toxic juglone, may cause gastric distress or obstruction. If moldy, may have toxic tremorgenic mycotoxins causing seizures or other neurological problems.

Japanese Walnuts-Cause gastric distress and/or obstruction. Not toxic per se, but if moldy may have tremorgenic mycotoxins using seizures or other neurological problems.

Macadamia Nuts- High in fat which can cause serious gastric distress and pancreatitis. They are also considered toxic, and can cause neurological problems.

Pecans-Have toxin juglone and can cause gastric distress or obstruction. If moldy they have tremorgenic mycotoxins and may cause seizure/neurological problems.

Peanuts-contain fats, which can cause gastric distress, vomiting, and diarrhea. Can cause pancreatitis. If salted, may cause sodium ion toxicosis

Pistachio Nuts-High in fat and like peanuts, can cause pancreatitis.

 

Don’t take a chance on your dog’s health or gamble with his life for the sake of a snack.
