a Dog's tale cont'd

My Best friend Bri who passed away on Mother's Day, 2003 of an illness the veterinarians could not identify.

Within 3 minutes this little dog was on her way to being adopted and a few weeks and several baths later, little Bri was a new dog, now 91/2 lbs, and born was a relationship that would endure all of life's joys and sorrows for the next 8 years.

In May of 2003 Bri suddenly took ill...3 veterinarians and several thousands of dollars later in hospital charges, lab fees and meds, the vets were stumped. Bri had a spiking fever of unknown origin and a white blood count of more than 50,000. ( Normal white blood counts are 5,000- 15,0000. I barely left my home, medicating, holding, hand feeding and hydrating my little pal, and praying for a miracle.

Mother's Day morning the sun came out bright and early in California. Bri watched me as I headed for the shower to get ready for church. Less than 10 minutes later, I returned to the living room to find that Bri had pulled her small blanket in front of the fireplace and passed away while I was in the shower.

Devastated, I was left to drive alone around town stopping at animal cemeteries and vet hospitals, not wanting to call anyone on a special day such as Mother's Day with my personal tragedy. Two days later Bri was cremated and laid to rest in a dedicated urn with a custom made memorial plate attached by a gold chain I bought in Italy 20 years ago. Amidst pictures of Bri and her best friend, Sinja she resides in my home and in my heart.

This story is the reason for this website. In memory of Bri and all the dogs of my life, I can think of no better memorial than to provide resources and education for your dog on health, longevity and nutrition.

As a baby boomer, I appreciate that we are all getting older and that passing is a natural event and part of God's will. But God has also given man a brain that can be used for good. And what better good can we do for the pups and pals who are part of our families than to give them every advantage and chance at a long and happy life.

So I do this for Bri, and Sinja and Frisky and Pepino, the dogs of my life (and yours) who you'll meet inside as we strive to keep everyone's best friend happy and healthy for a long, long time.
